I was listening to Juan Williams (NPR, FOX) on Imus this morning talking about the "so called controversy" of the Obamacare mandate that requires all employers including religious institutions to provide birth control to all employees. He said that this was a false or trumped up controversy that really didn't mean anything because over 60% of Catholics use birth control anyway. What I want to know is what the heck has that got to do anything???
So if 99% of the public decided they wanted to pierce their belly buttons is it right to require even 1% to unwillingly participate? What happened to the ideal of a FREE society and I don't mean the kind of "free" that only costs the poor saps who still want to work for a living.

Gift of God
I
didn’t see it at first, it strangely seemed out of place, it shouldn’t have,
this was a funeral after all. We were
running a bit late, the boys and I, and the only place available to sit was
near the front of the sanctuary. The
boys looked so handsome in their Sunday best, we had talked about what was
happening today, how they were expected to behave, what to anticipate, but I
was the one who was unprepared. I have
been to many funerals and memorials for family and dear friends. I have also
witnessed death up close in my job as an RN, but I was caught of guard. My eight year old son quietly whispered, “What
is that mom?” I had been so focused on
trying to get us settled into our seats and making sure that they had something
to occupy their little hands that I hadn’t noticed it. I looked up to see what he was referring to
and my heart lurched. We all knew why
we were there yet somehow I did not expect my reaction. I had remembered to
bring tissues (something I have forgotten in the past) but the emotion was so
much more than sadness. My response was
visceral and I instinctively put a reassuring arm around my little boy and
gently whispered back to him, “that is the casket that holds little Nathaniel’s
body but his soul is in heaven with Jesus.” My son gave me an understanding nod
and returned his focus to the service.
As I sat there between my two children, looking at that tiny little
casket, knowing that another mommy’s arms were aching for her son, I realized that
I was utterly ill prepared for the waves of emotion that washed over me.
The
short life of Nathaniel has touched countless people in immeasurable ways. The
unwavering faith of his parents and family is a true illustration of love and
conviction in the face of enormous pain and sorrow. ~“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16
That precious little boy is a witness of God’s eternal love.

Awesome Oregon Weekend ~ Gathering Of The Eagles
http://www.gatheringoftheeagles.com/
This was the Awesome event that I and a whole bunch of other conservatives were blessed to attend. Not only was the weather perfect here in the unpredictable pacific NW, and the location absolutely breathtaking, but EVERYONE from the parking attendants to the speakers and even the children of attendees (who, if they were anything like mine would have preferred to be doing something else) appeared to be genuinely enjoying themselves, yes that means I saw actual smiles (as opposed to virtual ones which can often leave one guessing if they are real or sarcastic) and as to the children's activities, our 4 year old son had to be dragged out of the bouncy house kicking and screaming so they could finally shut it down. Our 8 year old not only had the chance to bend Presidential Candidate Herman Cain's ear but he also excitedly found a whole new audience for his myriad of entertaining stories.
I always enjoy being around a large group of liberty loving conservatives, the air is thick with enthusiasm as well as a bit of cigar smoke (remember we LOVE freedom), the discussions are thoughtful and energetic and most importantly the people are authentic, salt of the earth, industrious and honest (especially the person who found my phone in the port-a-potty and turned it in).
So, I would really like to thank Ames and Dama Curtright for hosting Gathering of the Eagles, Master of Ceremonies Jeff Kropf, speakers Allen Alley, Anita MonCrief (newlywed and truly awesome gal pal), Dr. Art Robinson (definitely gonna give his campaign some volunteer love), Bill Post, Dr. Bob Basso/Thomas Pain (this man is a portrait of unwavering patriotism), Ruth Bendl, Holly Swanson, Lars Larson, Tim Barton, Victoria Taft, Greg Leo as well as many tireless coalition group representatives and most especially I would like to thank the totally incredible volunteers who helped make the event possible.
I was like a kid in a candy store, I didn't know where to head first. There were booths with lots of info and cool stuff, delicious food and tasty treats and wonderful music by The Hanson Family singers (daddy Hanson has a depth defying bass voice), Brian Futch (the guy came all the way from Georgia, is the daddy of six, five of them girls AND he was polite enough not to fall asleep or feign food poisoning while my husband and I regaled him with stories of our own and no I did not make him listen to me sing even though he was sitting with his producer) and as we were heading out to our car we were serenaded by Two Sisters and a Mister, well, I got to hear them a little bit longer than my guys because I had to walk back to look for my phone.... again (I really need to find a better way to carry that thing).

p.s. hope to have some pics up soon (sure wish I would pay attention when my hubby tries to teach me computer stuff) but if you would like a sneak peak check out my Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/girl-michal/116361425064841?sk=photos

Wow, it's been how long???
So here I am on Saturday (8/6/11) handing out my card with my blog info to people at an AWESOME event (more on that in a minute) embarrassingly admitting to them that I hadn't updated or worked on my blog for a little while. Now, when I've finally decide to do a little catch up I notice that I haven't posted since April! Ok, so I will not win any awards for timeliness (do they hand out such awards?) but I will try and update a little more frequently if for no other reason than to be able to hand out my totally cool cards with my head held high. So, thanks for hanging with me my loyal followers and I hope to add a few more to your number.

Rally for Robinson students and Professor Higginbotham at OSU
http://oregonstateoutrage.squarespace.com/home/2011/4/19/reminder-rally-wednesday-april-20-230-pm-at-oregon-state-uni.html
http://oregonstateoutrage.squarespace.com
I wish that I was able to attend this event, I would truly like to show my support in some substantial way, I have written letters and made phone calls with no satisfactory answers if I received an answer at all. Please, if you are in the Eugene Oregon area and are able to go, I hope you will take the time to participate. OSU needs to answer these allegations and let the tax payers of this state know what they are doing. If you are like me and unable to make it, please continue to ask questions, make phone calls, this cannot be allowed to be swept under the rug.
