Gift of God

I didn’t see it at first, it strangely seemed out of place, it shouldn’t have, this was a funeral after all.  We were running a bit late, the boys and I, and the only place available to sit was near the front of the sanctuary.  The boys looked so handsome in their Sunday best, we had talked about what was happening today, how they were expected to behave, what to anticipate, but I was the one who was unprepared.  I have been to many funerals and memorials for family and dear friends. I have also witnessed death up close in my job as an RN, but I was caught of guard.  My eight year old son quietly whispered, “What is that mom?”  I had been so focused on trying to get us settled into our seats and making sure that they had something to occupy their little hands that I hadn’t noticed it.  I looked up to see what he was referring to and my heart lurched.   We all knew why we were there yet somehow I did not expect my reaction. I had remembered to bring tissues (something I have forgotten in the past) but the emotion was so much more than sadness.  My response was visceral and I instinctively put a reassuring arm around my little boy and gently whispered back to him, “that is the casket that holds little Nathaniel’s body but his soul is in heaven with Jesus.” My son gave me an understanding nod and returned his focus to the service.  As I sat there between my two children, looking at that tiny little casket, knowing that another mommy’s arms were aching for her son, I realized that I was utterly ill prepared for the waves of emotion that washed over me.
The short life of Nathaniel has touched countless people in immeasurable ways. The unwavering faith of his parents and family is a true illustration of love and conviction in the face of enormous pain and sorrow.
~“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16
That precious little boy is a witness of God’s eternal love.

HERMAN CAIN IS..........ABC!!!

WHO IS HERMAN CAIN?

Awesome Oregon Weekend ~ Gathering Of The Eagles

http://www.gatheringoftheeagles.com/

This was the Awesome event that I and a whole bunch of other conservatives were blessed to attend.  Not only was the weather perfect here in the unpredictable pacific NW, and the location absolutely breathtaking, but EVERYONE from the parking attendants to the speakers and even the children of attendees (who, if they were anything like mine would have preferred to be doing something else) appeared to be genuinely enjoying themselves, yes that means I saw actual smiles (as opposed to virtual ones which can often leave one guessing if they are real or sarcastic) and as to the children's activities, our 4 year old son had to be dragged out of the bouncy house kicking and screaming so they could finally shut it down. Our 8 year old not only had the chance to bend Presidential Candidate Herman Cain's ear but he also excitedly found a whole new audience for his myriad of entertaining stories.
I always enjoy being around a large group of liberty loving conservatives, the air is thick with enthusiasm as well as a bit of cigar smoke (remember we LOVE freedom), the discussions are thoughtful and energetic and most importantly the people are authentic, salt of the earth, industrious and honest (especially the person who found my phone in the port-a-potty and turned it in).
So, I would really like to thank Ames and Dama Curtright for hosting Gathering of the Eagles, Master of Ceremonies Jeff Kropf, speakers Allen Alley, Anita MonCrief (newlywed and truly awesome gal pal), Dr. Art Robinson (definitely gonna give his campaign some volunteer love), Bill Post, Dr. Bob Basso/Thomas Pain (this man is a portrait of unwavering patriotism), Ruth Bendl, Holly Swanson, Lars Larson, Tim Barton, Victoria Taft, Greg Leo as well as many tireless coalition group representatives and most especially I would like to thank the totally incredible volunteers who helped make the event possible.
I was like a kid in a candy store, I didn't know where to head first.  There were booths with lots of info and cool stuff, delicious food and tasty treats and wonderful music by The Hanson Family singers (daddy Hanson has a depth defying bass voice), Brian Futch (the guy came all the way from Georgia, is the daddy of six, five of them girls AND he was polite enough not to fall asleep or feign food poisoning while my husband and I regaled him with stories of our own and no I did not make him listen to me sing even though he was sitting with his producer) and as we were heading out to our car we were serenaded by Two Sisters and a Mister, well, I got to hear them a little bit longer than my guys because I had to walk back to look for my phone.... again (I really need to find a better way to carry that thing).

p.s. hope to have some pics up soon (sure wish I would pay attention when my hubby tries to teach me computer stuff) but if you would like a sneak peak check out my Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/girl-michal/116361425064841?sk=photos

Wow, it's been how long???

So here I am on Saturday (8/6/11) handing out my card with my blog info to people at an AWESOME event (more on that in a minute) embarrassingly admitting to them that I hadn't updated or worked on my blog for a little while. Now, when I've finally decide to do a little catch up I notice that I haven't posted since April!  Ok, so I will not win any awards for timeliness (do they hand out such awards?) but I will try and update a little more frequently if for no other reason than to be able to hand out my totally cool cards with my head held high.  So, thanks for hanging with me my loyal followers and I hope to add a few more to your number.

Rally for Robinson students and Professor Higginbotham at OSU

http://oregonstateoutrage.squarespace.com/home/2011/4/19/reminder-rally-wednesday-april-20-230-pm-at-oregon-state-uni.html

http://oregonstateoutrage.squarespace.com

I wish that I was able to attend this event, I would truly like to show my support in some substantial way, I have written letters and made phone calls with no satisfactory answers if I received an answer at all.  Please, if you are in the Eugene Oregon area and are able to go, I hope you will take the time to participate.  OSU needs to answer these allegations and let the tax payers of this state know what they are doing.  If you are like me and unable to make it, please continue to ask questions, make phone calls, this cannot be allowed to be swept under the rug.

American Thinker Blog: The news you'll never see

American Thinker Blog: The news you'll never see

It is so interesting that the lame stream media in our own back yard REFUSES to report on the vile, disgusting, racist, anti-American vitriol that was spewed out at us as we sang the national anthem and commenced to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers at our Oregon Tea Party event.  A special thanks goes out to the Portland Police Officers that kept us all safe.  I suppose that it just doesn't fit the narrative that the left is the side of civility and compassion when they were the ones screaming the F*bomb around families and calling a black conservative a "token" and "a house black".  So, even though these events happened in Portland's living room right outside of KGW, there were no reporters to be found.  Thank goodness enough of us had cameras so that we could help all those tolerant peace loving admirers of government redistribution realize their ultimate dream of ending up on FOX News, O'Reilly, Hannity, Glenn Beck and Breitbart.

A Miracle in Japan

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1366155/Japan-earthquake-tsunami-4-month-old-baby-girl-father-reunited-Ishinomaki.html

While much of the news coming out of Japan is so heartbreaking following the destructive earthquake and subsequent  horrific tsunami I am reminded of God's grace and mercy when I read about this precious little miracle.
I hope you will join me in continuing to pray for the people of Japan that they may endure the many trials that are before them.

OSU is better than this

Oregon’s K-12 schools are 43rd in the nation and there appears to be no urgency for improving that abysmal ranking in the near future.  This makes one wonder just how many candidates for PhD’s in nuclear engineering will come from Oregon.  With this dubious distinction in mind, is expulsion of Joshua, Bethany, and Matthew Robinson, from their graduate studies in nuclear engineering as well as the removal of Professor Higginbotham, the type of publicity promoting precedent that Oregon State University wants to endorse?
As a taxpayer, it is appalling to think that a place of higher learning cares more about political payback than the prospect of what these individuals could accomplish with their obviously proven work ethic and intellect.
Professor Higginbotham is an honorable man.  He is the kind of educator and mentor that I hope my children will have the privilege and opportunity to work with in the future.
Initiative, innovation and entrepreneurship are sadly declining in our country and it is encouraging to discover young people like Joshua, Bethany and Matthew who are defying the typical stereotype of their generation.  They are just the type of students OSU should be actively recruiting NO MATTER their father’s political leanings.
I am a parent with small children and some day I look forward to spending obscene amounts of money sending them to college and as a native Oregonian it would be preferable to keep that money in our state.  If this travesty is allowed to happen, then you can be assured that OSU will be permanently crossed off our list of potential universities.
There is no shame in admitting a mistake, there is great dishonor in standing silently by while careers and futures are destroyed.  As Abraham Lincoln once said, “To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men.”
I am petitioning you to reconsider your actions and prove to the world, who is watching, that OSU is not inhabited by small minded and petty individuals who would rather club an adversary’s young than fight them on the battlefield of ideas.
Sincerely,
Michal Klein

This is a copy of an email that I sent to the dept. heads at OSU, I also sent it to several news agencies.  Please feel free to forward it on to everyone you know.

Don't forget what President Obama did for school choice

"Barack Obama & the DC School Voucher Program: The president says he wants to do 'what's best for kids.' So why won't he save a proven program that helps low-income students?"

We are all beginning to see that this is not about what is best for our children and their education it is about retaining power and control.

“Only in our stupid popular culture is such a position considered controversial.”

Wow, I was really impressed with Joel Northrup who is choosing to live out his principals and convictions rather than bend to the whims of pop culture and what does the lame stream media do?.......chastise and make fun of him.  Just goes to show what their true agenda really is, they are not trying to inform the public they are attempting to shape public opinion to fit their warped sense of values.  This young man chose honor no matter the personal cost, that is true leadership and that should be praised not mocked.  You should be ashamed Rick Reilly and ESPN.com, attempting to bully a 15 year old makes you pretty pathetic indeed.

Stupid in America

I do not understand why we as American citizens should accept this type of utter failure for our children.  Let's look at what doesn't work and get rid of it and start encouraging success.  Education is not a one size fits all solution, we need choices.  We need the teacher's unions to stop fighting We The People and we need to stop accepting mediocraty as something to aim for.

Waiting for Superman

My husband and I watched this last night and even though we have heard a lot of what was said in the film it was still quite enlightening to SEE it.  I believe there are many more good teachers than bad teachers but the system MUST be changed for our children's sake.  We have done it their way (status quo) long enough and there is plenty of research to prove that it is not working and the ones paying the price are our children.  It appears that truly good educators welcome change and educational competition so how do we go about accomplishing this?

Rep. Michele Bachman on Pigford, Fairness, and Her Family

<span style="color: red">Rep. Michele Bachman on Pigford, Fairness, and Her Family</span>

I think this is a great interview and that it shows the definite bias from the Left if the only place we get our information is from the lame stream media. Even this left wing reporter was surprised at how Rep. Bachman was nothing like how she is portrayed by those with an agenda to make the Right appear stupid, uneducated, uncaring and puppets of the rich.
It was also great to hear how people with differing ideas can be polite and actually listen to each other.

Walter E Williams quote from "Kindling for the Racial Bonfire"

"Organizations once part of a proud struggle have now squandered their moral authority.  They are little more than race hustlers championing a racial spoils system.  They no longer seek fair play and a colorblind society; their agenda is one of group rights where quota is king and color blindness is viewed with contempt.  Today's civil rights organizations differ only in degree, not in kind, from white racist organizations past and present."

Professor Williams explains a secondary benefit of private property rights.

"Those things that receive the Best care are Privately owned and those things that receive the Worst care are Publicly owned or don't belong to the abusers."

What really happened in Cairo

I can not stop thinking about Lara Logan, the American news reporter who was brutalized by a group of supposedly jubilant protesters in Tahrir Square.  Maybe I can not stop thinking of her because I am a woman, maybe I cannot stop thinking of her because I am a mom, maybe I cannot stop thinking of her because I am an American who values freedom and liberty or maybe just maybe it goes deeper than that.

I can not help but wonder, would this crime have been perpetuated on a well informed society?   What if we had had the truth of what was really happening in Cairo? What if we had been allowed to use common sense and intuition coupled with actual facts and not some sides’ narrative of what they wanted to be occurring.  I understand that what happened to Ms. Logan was deeply personal; it was an assault on not just her body but her mind and spirit as well, but this happened to a fellow American citizen, a fellow human being. Why has it taken our leaders so long to react?  Where is the demand for justice?  Why were they not just as quick to denounce such brutality as they were in the wake of the Arizona shootings? Don’t tell me that the reason we were not bombarded with details and information was because this was a sexual crime.  This was the very definition of a hate crime and by not condemning what happened we as a society have become complicit.  We have truly been crippled in this country and in deed around the world by so called “political correctness” and the insistence of “civility” which is just another way to censor speech and desensitize us to the TRUTH.

I am incredibly sickened, saddened, angry and sorry that we have allowed ourselves to be deceived and coddled in such a way that we no longer trust what is happening right in front of our very eyes.   Why was it so easy for Nidal Hasan to kill 13 people while yelling “Allahu Akbar” at Ft.Hood when there were numerous warnings that he was a threat? Why were we in such a hurry to declare the Duke Lacrosse players guilty before there was even a shred of evidence?  Why were two young brothers murdered by a man that was allowed to be in this country illegally?  And why are the poor ranchers in Arizona and Texas considered selfish for trying to protect their own property? Why are we in such a hurry to believe the peddlers of lies when they have proven over and over that they have contempt for the truth?

We must as a society search out the truth.  Truth does not have an agenda it does not have a narrative that it must fit into.  We must look at and study history for that is the best predictor of future events that we have.  And finally we must not allow ourselves to be persuaded, flattered, cajoled or bullied into going along with someone’s storyline because we are afraid or because we want to be accepted by the “cool kids”.  Yes, people will call us names like racist, bigot, idiot, fear monger, denier and worse and they may even question our sanity as well as our integrity.  Well, I say…. so what!  Look what listening to them has gotten us.  Our schools are horrible and yet we are spending more money on education than ever before.  We have higher unemployment after they promised us that we had to spend over $787 Billion dollars to “stimulate” the economy.  We have a multitude of regulations to protect snails, owls, butterflies, turtles and the delta smelt, but no regulations to protect our most defenseless preborn human beings.  Our children are being handed a legacy of debt and now we have public employees and their union thugs demanding that we as taxpayers pay even more all the while our President is playing his Stradivarius.

I for one have had enough and I will not be silent or complicit any longer.  I am not willing to sacrifice our children’s future on a stack of lies. I am so incredibly thankful to know that there are many of you out there with the same resolve and hunger for truth.

Liberty is threatened

“Liberty is threatened today not because of its failure but, some what ironically, because of its success.  Liberty’s counterpart in the economic arena, free markets, has been so successful in eliminating traditional problems like disease, pestilence, hunger, and gross poverty that all other human problems appear both unbearable and inexcusable.
The desire by many Americans to eliminate the so-called unbearable and inexcusable problems has led us astray from those basic ideals and principles on which our prosperous country was built.  In the name of other ideals, such as equality of income, sex and race balance, orderly markets, consumer protection, energy conservation, and environmentalism, just to name a few, we have abandoned many personal freedoms.  As a result of widespread control by government in an effort to achieve these so-called higher objectives, people have been subordinated to the point where considerations of personal freedom are but secondary or tertiary matters.  The ultimate end to this process is totalitarianism, which is no more than a reduced form of servitude.”
-Dr. Walter E. Williams

If you don’t believe this then ask yourself why you now have fewer choices when it comes to light bulbs, dish washing soap, toilets, shower heads, health care, jobs, schools and heaven forbid you are one of the few smokers left on the planet.

The intelligentsia keep trying to insist that the "science is settled" yet they won't debate the facts, even the co-founder of Greenpeace denies that man can change the weather. And what's more, is that this false alarmism is driving us through scare tactics to adopt energy policies that will create even more poverty.  This is about power and keeping people dependent on government for the essentials of life, it has nothing to do with what is best for humanity.

What would you do?

I have been mulling around my response to a recent post on my Facebook page.
A woman is being sent to prison, convicted of the crime of sending her children to school in a different district than the one in which she lives.

After posting this story I asked my FB friends what they thought. I received several replies including a couple from my sisters reminding me of the fact my own parents did for them what this woman did for her children.  She wanted a better education for her children than her local public school provided.  So in light of the fact that what she did was “for the children” should we as a society forgive the fact that what she did was technically illegal?  Does the motive justify the means?
